Xinqiao Hospital, Chongqing: The Report Takes 7–14 Days

A health checkup at Xinqiao Hospital (新桥医院) in Chongqing has published package prices running from ¥752 ($105) for a 17-item young-adult screen to ¥4,280 ($595) for the largest 37-item package, with separate diamond VIP tiers to ¥5,722 ($795). Xinqiao is the Second Affiliated Hospital of the Army Medical University, a Grade IIIA teaching hospital at 83 Xinqiaozheng Street in Shapingba District, and the city's other military-medicine flagship alongside Southwest Hospital. The number that should actually shape your plans is not a price: the centre's own booking notice says the report takes 7 to 14 working days.

The report turnaround is the deciding fact, not the price

Most hospital pages bury the report timeline at the bottom. Here it belongs at the top, because it is the one variable that can make the whole trip pointless. The checkup centre's published booking notice states that reports are ready 7 to 14 working days after the examination, collected in person between 12:00 and 16:30 Monday to Friday, and that the report room is closed at weekends.

Set that against the alternatives. Private international hospitals in Shanghai and Beijing typically issue a report in 1–3 working days, and the government travel healthcare centres that handle the visa medical exam turn certificates round in three to five. Fourteen working days is close to three calendar weeks. A visitor on a one-week trip, or a two-week trip with the checkup at the front of it, will be home before the document exists.

This is fixable, but only in advance. Ask at booking for courier delivery (快递报告) — the centre offers it, and it must be arranged on the day of the examination, not requested by email afterwards. Ask at the same time what an English physician summary would add to the timeline, because retrofitting one later is slower and more expensive than commissioning it at the counter. One caveat on the number itself: the centre's general platform FAQ quotes a shorter 3–7 working days as a nationwide norm, while the Xinqiao-specific notice gives 7–14. Where a hospital's own notice and a generic platform answer disagree, plan on the hospital's. Confirm it when you book.

What the packages actually cost

Unusually, this centre's full price list is public. Chinese booking platforms publish every tier with its item count, which is exactly the pairing you need — because at any Chinese checkup centre the item count, not the price, tells you whether you are buying a checkup.

The 17-item tier is the one to be careful with. It is the package that wins a price-sorted list, and 17 items is enough for bloods, urine, vitals and a basic ultrasound — but the chest CT, the cardiac and thyroid ultrasound and the tumour-marker panels that make a screening worth flying for only appear once the item count climbs past the mid-twenties. This is the same structure documented at Southwest Hospital, where the headline "from ¥206" buys even less. Compare 项目 (item) lists, never headline prices.

Xinqiao at a glance

The checkup department is organised over five floors — general and group screening on the first and second, a military floor on the third, VIP on the fourth, a wellness floor on the fifth — and the hospital describes it as the largest in-hospital garden-style checkup centre in Asia. Treat that last claim as the hospital's own marketing; the useful part is the layout, because a one-floor circuit is what keeps a Chinese checkup to a single morning. Note that CT and MRI are done outside the centre in the main imaging department, so a package containing a chest CT involves at least one walk across the campus.

Choose between Xinqiao and Southwest by the follow-up, not the checkup

Both hospitals belong to the Army Medical University. Both are Grade IIIA. Both run large, high-volume checkup centres that will order you the same bloods, the same abdominal ultrasound, the same ECG and the same chest imaging. For the screening itself they are interchangeable, and anyone telling you otherwise is selling something.

Two things genuinely differ. The first is scheduling, and it favours Southwest: it publishes a seven-day checkup window and a 2–3 working-day report against Xinqiao's weekday-led hours and 7–14 days. For a short trip that is decisive on its own.

The second is where an abnormal result goes next — and this is where Xinqiao has the stronger case. Its national key specialties are respiratory medicine and cardiovascular medicine, and those map directly onto the two findings a routine checkup in this population most often has to act on: a lung nodule picked up on a low-dose chest CT, and a cardiovascular risk finding from the ECG, lipid panel and carotid ultrasound. Southwest's decisive specialty is hepatobiliary — which matters if the abdominal ultrasound flags a liver question. Neither is a reason to travel; both are a reason to prefer one hospital over the other if you already know what you are screening for.

A caution that belongs with that, because it cuts the other way: a lung nodule on a first-ever CT is usually not a problem to solve on the trip. Small nodules are common, most are benign, and the standard answer is an interval scan months later rather than anything done that week. Being at a hospital with a famous thoracic bench is useful for getting a considered read; it is not a reason to accept an intervention offered on a first visit. The endoscopy is in a different building, on a different day

Sedated gastroscopy and colonoscopy is the highest-value add-on at Chinese prices, and at Xinqiao it is listed at about ¥2,169 ($300) — but it is not part of the checkup centre's circuit. The published notice places it either at the endoscopy centre on the second floor of the outpatient building, or in the gastroenterology endoscopy centre of the third inpatient building, and states that it is not performed at weekends or on public holidays.

The practical consequence is that "full body checkup plus endoscopy in Chongqing" is a two-location, weekday itinerary spanning at least two days, not a single long morning. One further item to check rather than assume: the centre's notice records the C13 urea breath test for H. pylori as temporarily unavailable. It is a cheap and genuinely useful test in this region, so if it matters to you, confirm availability at booking rather than expecting it in the package.

Booking, payment and the language reality

• Booking. At least one day ahead and before 11:00, through the hospital's WeChat official account, its mini-programme, the phone lines above, or the service desk. • Language. Xinqiao was among Chongqing's first designated foreign-related hospitals, but that is an administrative status, not a service. There is no published English-language international department and no English website; some clinicians speak workable English, and the checkup circuit does not. Plan an interpreter. • Payment. WeChat Pay, Alipay linked to a foreign card, or cash. Chinese public health insurance (医保) generally cannot be used for a voluntary checkup, so this is a self-pay transaction — see how to pay and whether insurance covers a checkup.
• Fasting and timing. Nothing but water from midnight. Arrive by 08:30 even though the morning window nominally runs to 12:00 — the blood draw and ultrasound queues build fast, and fasting items stop at noon regardless. Full detail in the preparation guide.
